Headquartered in Stoneville, North Carolina, Southern Finishing Company manufactures, finishes, and ships pre-finished wood products to many of the largest building product and furniture manufacturers in the United States.
Southern Finishing, a privately held company, was founded in 1978 and employs more than 500 people with 11 manufacturing and distribution locations in North Carolina, Virginia, and Arizona.

Humble Beginnings
Solving problems is how it all started in 1978 and remains vital to the core of who we are at Southern Finishing today.
Our founder and owner Ed Brown saw a problem inside the operations of a North Carolina-based furniture manufacturer. Ed envisioned a way to reduce complexity and improve productivity inside their wood staining operation.
Ed offered to use his finishing and color matching expertise to streamline their operations while allowing the manufacturer to focus on their core operations and better utilize their large-scale equipment. This was the seed that started a business and has grown into the Southern Finishing Company.
Growing Partnerships
With an unrelenting desire to bring innovation, problem solving, and partnership to our customers, Southern Finishing has grown to operate 11 manufacturing and distribution locations in the United States.
From that first opportunity in 1978 to our ongoing partnerships with the largest building product and furniture manufacturers, we remain committed to the success of our customers, employees, and communities.
Our partnership formula has rewarded us not only with customer relationships spanning decades, but suppliers too—top companies like AkzoNobel, FinishWorks, Woodcraft Industries, Hafele, and Omega National Products.

We are proud of our industry-leading lean manufacturing and quality programs. So much so, we often share our processes and principles with our customer and supplier partners.
These efforts, combined with our JIT (just-in-time) model, allow us to meet or exceed customer expectations for product quality and delivery speed—including a 99.5% on-time ship rate all but guaranteeing products deliver precisely when expected.
While we take great pride in our work, we are never satisfied and are constantly striving for excellence.

Ed Brown is the founder and president of Southern Finishing. Ed has led the company’s development and growth since our start in 1978.
Ed has great passion for our company being a values-based organization. Partnering with our customers, our employees, and our community, Ed has created an organization at Southern Finishing that is committed to its core values of Customer Satisfaction, Integrity, Teamwork, and Excellence.
Ed continues to teach through these values the importance of partnerships. His passion for working together, as value-based partners, is what created our success at our founding, it is what leads us today, and what will drive us to even greater achievements in the future.
